We are made in the image of God; we carry within us the desire for our true life of intimacy and adventure. To say we want less than that is to lie.

John Eldgredge, The Journey of Desire

Jesus talked a lot about meeting our desire. He refers to desire in various ways - for instance, as hunger and thirst:

I am the Bread of Life. The person who aligns with me hungers no more and thirsts no more, ever. John 6:35-38 (MSG)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14

So let me direct the question to you: Why are you here? What do you want?

Because there is no getting around it: every man longs, wants, hopes, hungers, thirsts for something. We desire. The real question is do we know what it is we desire? And, do we know where we can go to get that desire met?

At our foundation, at our core, the answer is love. Love is what we desire. And because God is love, he is the one to whom we are to take our needs. Love nourishes, love supports, love furnishes, love refreshes. Love settles our heart. We need God. We desire God.
