I've been on the Legacy Council as well as the King's Council and I'm ready to "graduate" to the Elder Sage!
Married to Jeanmarie 26+ years, 2 adult kids - Savie, 24yo, electrical engineer; Ryan, 22yo, finance and psychology major, graduating from NCSU in Dec 2025. Wife is 5 of 7 kids, from Greensboro, and amazingly smart, funny, giving, and loving. She's an awesome friend and lover of others. Both kids are learning, and have learned, these traits from her (and us!). We raised them with the nighttime statement - "I love you, always and forever, no matter what" - to educate them in the unconditional love of their heavenly father, as expressed and demonstrated thru their earthly parents.
Attended 3 or 4 (5?) Encounter weekends, 2 Rendezvous weekends, 2 or 3 Advanced Weekends
Wow - which time? First was at 12 in the ecumenical charismatic movement when I attended an Epsicopal church with my mom and sister; again while at college at Purdue; then again before we began having kids in 2001 and especially became person when I went through 7 years with trigeminal neuralgia.
One particular time stands out when I shared my story - real-life screaming, yelling, and cussing at God type of story, with the college ministry at Vintage Church, downtown Raleigh. They were moved as I shared how, in the midst of extreme chronic pain, Jesus whispered to me that he's always been with me, never left me, and will always be with me, no matter what. THIS is what I shared.
I've done lots of discovering my wounds from my parents, co-workers, friends, family. The body keeps the score, and as I've been in therapy for 10+ years, I've not only discovered my triggers, I've also discovered my passions and why. Ive discovered the vows/agreements that had kept me bound up with addiction and attitudes and default behaviors which, I've now broken and am progressing through
Parents divorce; mother's drug addiction and ultimately completing suicide; sister's attempted suicide; dad's 4 marriages;
Very familiar - mostly personal, however, being a Medic Guide at several Encounter events, I've had to engage in warfare.
Ah - yes - in the throes of my pain journey with trigeminal neuralgia, I yelled and cried out to God asking "why is this happening and not getting better or relief or healed???" and he spoke to me, whispered in my ear, that he's aware my experience is terrible, he's sorry it's happening, he's always been right beside me, he loves me, he'll always be with me, no matter what happens. I KNOW this was God speaking to me because - none of this language was in my brain nor in my vacubulary at the time. The verbiage was so different from what was going on in my head that it could only be from the father.
Yes, pretty extensive. Both in the Medic Guide training but in my professional role as sales manager. You have to listen to customers and people. I'm also a mentor to the Teen Board of Note in the Pocket in Raleigh, addressing clothing insecurity. I also host a men's group each Wednesday morning in north Raleigh; I've applied and been approved to begin volunteering at Refugee Hope Partners in Raleigh, serving the refugee community. I've also taken certification classes on Forward Facing Freedom methodology of therapy.
