Session 1: Sons to Warriors

What keeps a man from becoming all that he can really be? Why aren’t more men living a life of freedom as "more than conquerors”? Is abundant life as a man really possible? In this first session, Michael, Jay, Blake, and Jim explore these questions, and take a look at both what a man isn’t, and what a man truly is. If abundant life is possible, if freedom is possible, how will we get there? And what will we have to let go of along the way?

Session 2: Getting Your Heart Back

The struggles and trials of life often cause men to lose heart. Instead of producing faith, men often find themselves beginning to lose hope. And when you lose hope,  you’re in serious trouble. In this session, Michael and his friends look at why and how men lose hope — and more importantly, how it can be restored. How whole do you want to be? How healed to you want to get? How strong do you want to become? That’s the invitation when Jesus says, “Follow me.”

Session 3: It's Worse Than We Think

What makes a man angry and violent, or passive and disengaged? Many men are unfinished or unfathered — they don’t know how, and there’s no one to show them how. If you’re not aware to how the enemy of your heart is working, you’re going to get taken out. We know that restoration is available, but what are we being restored to? If we are being made more like Christ, then we need to know who Christ is and what he’s like. Yes, it’s worth than we thought … but the invitation is far better than we thought, too.

Session 4: Where It Hurts / Belovedness

What is keeping you from stepping into the man you are becoming? Why is it so hard for many men to let themselves be loved? The journey of becoming like Christ is one of restoration. The kingdom of darkness wants to draw us away from God; in the Kingdom of Christ, we are being restored to God. But in order for restoration to take place, we have to identify what got broken in the first place, and bring it to Jesus for healing.

Session 5: Being Fathered

Being fathered by God hinges on a very significant question: Is God good? If we misunderstand God’s goodness, then it’s no wonder when we misinterpret his gifts. For many of us, our beliefs about who God is are formed in the early years, and are deeply influenced by how our fathers, grandfathers, and other authority figures handle our hearts. In this session, Michael and his friends explore what it means to see God as a father, and how having a good understanding of that carries us further in our journey of restoration.

Session 6: Intensive Care

Have you ever heard tell you something painful, and then say, "But I've worked through that." So often when we say that what we really mean is, "I've accepted that." Awareness alone doesn't bring healing to a wound. For healing, we most go to God with our wounds, and allow him to help us reconstruct the broken pieces. For many men, this starts with a first, simple act of faithfulness ... believing that God will even show up at all.

Session 7: Ways of the Beloved Son

Experiencing and receiving belovedness is the key difference between offering selfless love in a situation or entering in with a self-focused need for approval or affirmation. A man who is living as a beloved son is a man with nothing to hide, nothing to prove, and nothing to fear. In this session, Michael and his friends explore when and how they first began to experience belovedness.

Session 8: What We Are Up Against

Once a man is settled in his belovedness, then it's time to learn to fight for his own heart and the hearts of others. A man who will fight for others instead of against them is a powerful force for good in the Kingdom. It all starts with recognizing who the true enemy is, and becoming awake to the ways they work against us.

Session 9: Basic Training

There is an art to being a warrior. It's something that must be learned. We see this in sports, academics, work ... and we see it in Christian masculinity. The more training we receive, the more God can entrust to us. Training is about becoming new, and is fundamental to learning to live "newly". In this session, Michael, Jay, Blake, and Jim explore how important training is for our hearts to learn to love.

Session 10: Advanced Training

Basic training is only the beginning of the mission; the training we need is ongoing, and it gets more advanced along the journey. This training happens in the context of relationships with other men. Join in as Michael and his friends share about and explore the ways that God is continuing to train them up as Beloved Sons.

Session 11: Warnings and Promises

So what is all this training about anyway? Why is it so important? The short answer: because if a Warrior falls, the whole community around him falls. Too often the story of Christian men is one of religiosity -- of using authority and power to diminish and tear down, instead of using love to restore and build up. Join Michael and his friends as they explore the dire warnings and the wonderful promises that God provides us to help us stay true to his heart.

Session 12: Loving a Woman

The hearts of women are bound up in the same core questions as the hearts of men: "Do you love me?" and "Do you love what you see?" In this session, Michael, Jim, Jay, and Blake share stories of their successes and failures in their own lives, and explore how being a beloved son is crucial to loving beloved daughters.

Session 13: Following the King

Every man needs a cause and king. Something to give his strength to, and someone to give his love to. And if we are going to follow Jesus as King, then it is critical that we intimately know his heart and who he is. In this session, Michael and his friends explore stories of how Jesus has loved them, and how they can then take his love to those around them.

Session 14: Postscript

In this final session, Michael and his friends share about how everything in the journey is interconnected. The two realms and two kingdoms, the spiritual battles, the journey of healing and loving -- all of it is connected. The journey of becoming like Jesus is a wild adventure, but every step of healing you take toward freedom will absolutely be worth it.
