An encouraging note from the leaders of a men’s ministry in Pennsylvania
We received this kind and encouraging email from the men's ministry leaders at The Meeting House Church in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
We were so touched, we asked if we could share it with you, too. It takes about 3 minutes to read, and it's SOO worth it!
May you be encouraged by your impact!
Hi Zoweh Friends!
We wanted to send a quick note of thanks and encouragement after wrapping up the Father Matters devotional with our men’s ministry at The Meeting House in Carlisle, PA. We spent nine weeks with the material this summer, and it was just really, really good.
Week after week, the material brought life to the room and created space for some incredibly honest conversations. It gave the men permission to talk about their fathers, their own experiences as dads, wounds they were carrying, mistakes they’d made, and the kind of men they want to become. More importantly, we started seeing those conversations turn into action.
One man shared that he set up a father/daughter date with his adult daughter, who jumped at the opportunity, and he used that time to speak truth and blessing over her life. He’s now planning a similar time with his adult son. Another man wrote a letter of blessing to a grandson who had been struggling, and it opened the door to some really meaningful engagement between them. Yet another wrote a blessing for his daughter and she hung it on her wall. Stories like these seemed to give other men courage to step into their own stories, too. That’s been some of the best fruit of the study: men putting into practice the things we were talking about.
Man after man talked about how meaningful it was to have other men with whom they could process life, men they knew they could count on and reach out to, and the reminder that they don’t have to do life alone.
Father Matters has eight sections, but we actually added a ninth week as a capstone and gave the guys an opportunity to share and reflect on the study as a whole. One of the themes we heard over and over had less to do with any particular lesson and more to do with the experience of going through it together. Man after man talked about how meaningful it was to have other men with whom they could process life, men they knew they could count on and reach out to, and the reminder that they don’t have to do life alone. The material helped create that kind of space, and that’s a pretty great legacy for a study on legacy. :)
We just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for the thought and heart you put into Father Matters, for the work you’re continuing to do for men, and especially for your generosity in sharing these resources with others. It made a real difference for our guys this summer.
Keep up the outstanding work. We’re so grateful for you.
