When the religious experts of the day challenged Jesus with the question, what is the greatest of all the commandments? Jesus didn’t respond from Exodus 20 where the Ten Commandments reside. Instead He responded with a commandment in Deuteronomy 6:4-5:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.

Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:28

Now, if this is the greatest of all the commandments wouldn’t it make sense that we are able to do what we are being commanded to do? And given the authority of who is giving the command, isn’t it conceivable that it might be difficult to achieve? Finally, if this is our most important goal and mission in life, then doesn’t it stand to reason that it will be the most opposed by our enemy (the unholy trinity)?

Considering these factors, doesn’t it make sense that we will need a lot of help to pull it off?
